It was actually pretty amazing how much could happen in one year. Bella had been surprised when Nathan told her they were going away for a few days to celebrate their first anniversary. It was a long trip, but with beautiful changing landscapes. Bella gazed out of the window most of the trip, and that night she slept deeply in the hotel. The morning of their anniversary, however, she’d woken up to Nathan’s gentle kisses. At first, she’d been reluctant to wake up, but eventually they were back on the road, heading towards the ocean. The waters were beautiful. Like something you would only see in the movies. The sight stole her breath. “Wow, so beautiful,” she’d whispered to Nathan. Nathan kept driving though, heightening Bella’s curiosity. “Where are we going, exactly?” Bella asked for the hundredth time. “You’ll see.” Bella could tell that he was enjoying this tease. The playful smirk on his lips was impossible to miss. A last, they got out of the car and Bella gazed in awe at the blue waters, at the boat that was anchored near the pier. “Ours for the day,” Nathan remarked, her arms lightly around her waist. Bella’s eyes widened. They’d done many things together in the past: hiked mountains, camped near a jungle, found refuge in a cave, but never had they spent any time on a boat. Part of Bella was nervous. Would the rocking motion make her nauseous? Yet, her excitement trumped every other emotion. She turned towards Nathan, her arms lightly around his neck. “You’re truly incredible, you know that?” Going onto her tiptoes, her lips brushing against his. "Wait..." Bella jogged back to the jeep and grabbed her bag, an envelope withdrawn from it. "For you," she said, handing it to Nathan once she returned to him. "You know I'm not so good saying these things aloud..." she grinned sheepishly. "I love you," she whispered, her arms around him again. "Thank you for the wonderful year."
