About sakura
Place of Birth: Hakone, Japan |
Sakura's PersonalitySakura is quite the paranoid and pessimistic young woman. She constantly feels the need to move, and hates staying or sitting in one place for long periods of time. She loves the outdoors and all things nature. While Sakura is rather artistic, both in performing arts and fine arts, she is partially-illiterate.
Sakura's BackgroundSakura was born to 15-year-old single mother, Asami Kozu. Deeply in love, the passions of Sakura's teenage parents led to her conception. When Asami and Hayato's parents learned about the pregnancy, Hayato was forbidden to ever see Asami again, and Asami's father insisted on her terminating the pregnancy. Alarmed, Asami ran away from home.
While on the run, Asami came upon a travelling circus in Kanna. Somehow, she attracted the attention of Herc, the son of the circus leader, who had compassion for Asami’s tragic story and invited her to travel with the other carnies. |
During Asami’s pregnancy, she spent a lot of time admiring Japan's landscapes as she travelled with the circus. One day, while she was picnicking beneath an umbrella of cherry blossom trees, she felt her baby move for the first time. It was at that moment when she decided to name her baby Sakura, if she were a girl.
Sakura was born at the break of dawn. The carnival fortune teller, Yumi, delivered her virtually problem-free while the caravan drove through Hakone. Sakura became the most beloved member of the carny family, with dozens of freakish aunts and uncles who doted upon her constantly. Two years later, Sakura was following in her mother’s footsteps, trying to already gain the skills required to be an acrobat With her mother’s natural flexibility and incredible coordination for her young age, Sakura blossomed into the carnival’s youngest aerial artist and acrobat. Sakura became one of the most popular attractions while her mother continuously won Herc’s affections.
Publicly, Herc doted on his surrogate daughter. Yet, in the privacy of their tents, he ignored her. Sakura overheard various conversations in which Herc wanted a child of his own, but somehow Asami was unable to get pregnant. Eventually, Herc became violent, drugs and alcohol taking a toll on his already fiery personality. In the middle of the night, Asami took 10-year-old Sakura and fled to Tokyo. For a year, she stayed in a tiny apartment, and then when Sakura turned 11, Asami returned to the travelling carnival from where they’d come. There was one condition, however: she wanted nothing to do with Herc. Knowing Sakura’s worth, the circus leader gladly welcomed them back. While travelling, Sakura easily familiarized herself with the language of the tourists, namely the English language.
However, Herc was still rather tempered, especially with the younger members of the family. He was a believer in corporal punishment and was not against lashing out on any member. When Sakura turned 16, Asami fell ill with pneumonia and eventually perished as a result. Prior to that, Sakura had been planning an escape with a few other teenagers affiliated with the carnival, her best friend and romantic interest Kuro being among one of the escapees.
