Bella didn't want to see Amanda, not while she was in all that pain. She'd seen her share of movies and TV shows of women screaming at the top of their lungs while a tiny human being ripped its way out of them. Bella cringed at the thought, automatically crossing her legs. It must be bloody awful. Why did women put themselves through such torture anyway?
The thought crossed her mind for a moment. Did she ever see herself being a mother? Hell no. She drummed her fingers against her knee before she decided on heading to the gift shop. What did little babies need anyway? She searched and searched until she found small knitted hats, pink, with pop-poms like little mouse ears. Grinning, she took them to the counter for purchase. An eternity seemed to pass by before the baby was born and most of the family was gone. The baby was still asleep, but Bella took that time to peer into the bassinet and whisper, "Hi Emi, I'm your cool aunt, Bella." She grinned, winking. "We're gonna have a lot of fun once you're a little older... And not so... teeny..." She chuckled and tossed the hat to Niels. With a quick congratulations, she waved and left the hospital room. So that's why women put themselves through all that pain.

For once, Bella wanted to leave Rio. It wasn't fun being with the family this year. Everyone seemed to be in a rut. It was bloody depressing. She lay on her back, feeling the kiss of the Brazilian sun on her skin. In a few days she would turn 16--an adult. Was she ready to be an adult?
Truth be told, the though sort of freaked her out. What would she do with herself? She didn't want to be a burden to her parents... or parents... Whatever. And she didn't know what she would to do make a living. A music career was out of the question, seeing as she couldn't play even one proper note on her violin. Sure she could sing, but... meh. What else was there to do? She literally shook the thoughts out of her head. Usually, Rio was where she cast all her cares away. Where she just basked in the sun and left all her other thoughts behind. Yet today she couldn't seem to turn her brain off. When she could no longer take the constant nagging in her mind, she stood and threw some clothes on over her bikini. If she was turning 16, it meant that she would be allowed to compete in fighting tournaments. At least that was something she could focus on. Finding a remote area not too far from the beach, she took a deep breath and began practising her Jujutsu skills. She hoped to make Adam proud next time they had a training session... if there would be a next time. At least this was something she could prove to be good at. Everything ached. Her legs, her arms, her abs... Just sitting up in bed was painful. With a sigh, she stood up, forcing herself to stretch her sore muscles. She was used to training hard, but never this hard. Perhaps this was pushing it, but it was enough to take the edge off everything else. She heaved a sigh as she remembered the conversation she had with her mother the night before. Her parents were divorced.Divorced!
Despite the deep ache in her muscles, she slipped into her jogging pants and top, throwing a sweatshirt over it. As she tied her sneakers she tried to think of what could've gone wrong. Was it her fault? Had she torn them apart somehow? Her mind wandered far away as she jogged down the pavement, the cool wind hitting her face. She ran until she could feel her heart beating in her throat and then she headed back home. It took her a while to catch her breath, and only then did she burst into tears. She headed back upstairs to her bedroom, pulling her side table drawer open to find the few cigarettes she had hidden there. Biting her lip, she stared at the cigarettes for a moment before slamming the drawer closed. She considered calling Isa to hang out with her, but sh knew Isa was babysitting Eli. She was in no mood to be around her youngest brother, so she quickly got rid of the thought. Instead, she got down onto the floor and started a round of push-ups. She'd simply train until the physical pain far surpassed the emotional turmoil. At least that pain made sense. ![]() Bella stepped back and stared at the violin she'd laid out on the bed. It was definitely a beautiful instrument--aesthetically and audibly. It was certainly a lovely gift from her mother, but... a music career? She fell back into a chair, gnawing on her lower lip. What DID she want to do with her life? Lately, her priorities were on fighting, especially considering those boys who tended to pick on her whenever she went to the park back home in London. There was no way she would keep allowing them to bully her. Shaking the thoughts out of her mind, she tried to focus on the present. The Christmas party was lots of fun, and she found out that Amanda and Niels were having a baby girl. She had to grin, thinking back to her mother's triumphant reaction. The family has certainly been outnumbered by testosterone--it was about time another girl came along! With a sigh, Bella stood to pack her violin away. Perhaps once she returned to London she would see about seeking out private lessons. Or... She bit her lip again. After her jujutsu training, she thought. Maybe... Prom time again... Bella rolled her eyes upon reading the announcement. what was the point? With a sigh, she grabbed her skateboard and headed outside quickly. Soon, she arrived at the park, attempting skating tricks she'd never done before. Anything to take her mind off at the thoughts gnawing at her brain. She didn't care about prom, did she? As her thoughts wandered, she lost her footing, and before she knew it, the skateboard slipped from beneath her. She fell to the ground hard, swearing loudly at the pain that seemed to slice through her ankle. She remained there, on the ground, for a while longer. Her pride ached more than her ankle since nearby, a few guys were laughing at her. But she stood up held her chin high. She thought of walking right past them, but instead, she faced them. One of them blew a puff of cigarette smoke her way, “Learned that trick from your little sister, little girl?” he teased. Bella folded her arms and glared at him. “Learned to make fun of people from YOUR little sister, little boy,” she sneered. The boy’s friends laughed at him. Bella stared at the cigarette in the boy’s hand for a while before asking, “You have another one of those?” The boy raised an eyebrow at her. “You smoke?” he inquired. “Who’s to say I don’t?” Bella challenged. It all happened so fast, but suddenly she had a lit cigarette between her fingers and several, daring eyes watching her. She closed her eyes and wrapped her lips around the cigarette, inhaling. The next thing she knew, she was coughing violently and all the guys were heckling her. When she finally managed to catch her breath, she took another pull on the cigarette, immediately exhaling this time. She handed the cigarette back to one of the guys and set her skateboard down again. Without another word, she hopped on her skateboard and headed back home. Never again, she thought. Comments #1.
