About rhys
Place of birth: Kirkconnel, Scotland |
Rhys' PersonalityRhys is a silent but rebellious child. He has spent years taking care of himself when his parents were not around, which provided him with some means to survive on his own. He cares about people that are nice to him all the time, but he can hold grudges if you cross him.
Rhys' BackgroundRhys was born as the first child of Alastair Fraser and Aileen Rutherford, born in the Scottish town of Kirkconnel. When he was a newborn, he led a good life, as he lived in a nice house. Early on in his life, his father lost his job though, and soon enough they could no longer afford to pay the rent for the house. They then moved to a small apartment in the suburbs, a more affordable one. He grew up in the suburbs, his mother mainly looking after him while his father worked menial jobs to support his family.

Around Rhys' sixth birthday, Alastair and Aileen started being more absent. They brought home more nice things than before though, and once Rhys asked about it. Aileen didn't answer him, but when he went into a store with his mum and dad about a year later, he noticed how Alastair put a bottle of Scotch in a pocket, walking out with it afterwards. After that, Rhys understood how they got these things. After that, he began to work on learning how to do this too, like he saw his parents do. He also managed to get a little stray cat to like him, and he named it George. At that time, George was his best friend.
Growing older, Rhys had to rely on himself more and more. While his parents were away, there was barely any food. He resorted to stealing small bits of food from an elderly lady living above them, so he wouldn't starve. His father, Alastair, was growing drunk more and more often too, and he neglected Rhys because of this. One day, after Rhys got into a fight, Alastair threatened to turn him in to the police. That lead to a big fight, in which Alastair hit Aileen hard and tried to hit Rhys with a bottle. Aileen then took Rhys to Glasgow.
In Glasgow, Aileen and Rhys lived in a motel for as long as they had money. They had a good time together, until they had to resort to sleeping outdoors or in basements because they were out of money. Rhys knew his mother had begun stealing again. One day, Aileen had to go. After that, Rhys didn't see her again, and he had to steal and beg for food to survive on his own. Eventually, he got caught while stealing some food. The police turned him over to social services, which then placed Rhys in a foster home. Up to this day, he has no idea what exactly happened to his mother.
He did however hear rumours that she might be arrested in England. Following those rumours, Rhys went down South, after running away from his foster parents. After a brief stay in Newcastle, he went to London. Once in London, he lived from theft once again. He lived in an abandoned factory, spending his days wandering the streets, pondering upon the questions surrounding his life. He felt a little abandoned, but he knew it hadn't been his mother's choice. While roaming the streets of London, he met Emma, a nice girl who was trying to help him. She was the first person he ever really called a friend, and he quickly grew a liking towards her.
Having lived in the factory for a long time, one day Rhys saw a sign saying the factory was going to be closed down. He had to look for a new place to stay, and he found that in a nice apartment of which the owner was away on holidays. However, this owner came home earlier than expected, leading to Rhys being arrested once more. Following this, he was placed into foster care, being looked after by Teun van Loon and Rosa Rosewell van Loon. Through this he has gained a foster sibling, Aubrey, whom he gets along well with, if she's not busy doing any of her girly or artsy stuff.
Some time after his arrival, another foster child arrived at the van Loon household. Her name was Kenna, and Rhys immediately felt a certain draw towards her. She was unlike any other girl he had met, and she seemed to be able to understand him, even a bit better than he himself did at times. Rhys admires Kenna, and since Emma had to leave on tour with her family again, Kenna is the closest thing he has to a friend. Her presence is a constant influence on Rhys, who acts a bit more fearless around her, and who uses his skills occasionally to get them stuff. Despite sometimes having the feeling Kenna doesn't really like him all the time, he feels like he gets along with her well, and at times, he feels like she's one of the only people able to break through his defences and see what he really feels when he says something. Up to this point, he isn't sure whether this is just an illusion on his behalf, or if Kenna is actually able to do so.
Rosa and Teun enrolled Rhys in school as well, but he isn't doing that well. Some courses he likes, and despite teachers not always liking him because of his general attitude, he scores decent marks. He is experiencing some trouble with mathematics though, as he has never been schooled properly before that. He also had troubles with literature classes when he first got enrolled, but as he got used to reading, he started enjoying it. Now, reading is one of his favourite pastimes when he isn't forced to do his homework, and he often looks for books that can challenge him. All this time though, he continued to skateboard, and he is not planning on giving that up.
When his 16th was approaching more, Rhys was asked by Rosa and Teun what he would think about being adopted by them. Rhys agreed, but he liked the suggestion Rosa did about him looking once more before they went through with the adoption, in hopes that he would find some closure. So after Eli's wedding, Teun, Rosa and Rhys looked around in Scotland, with help of a private investigator. After they had given up on finding her in Scotland, they returned home, only to be called by the private investigator the next morning to tell them they found his mother in Bristol. Soon, they visited his mother, who gave them her blessing to go through with the adoption.
Soon after Rhys was declared an official member of the van Loon family, Rhys celebrated his sixteenth birthday. After his birthday, Rhys started looking for a job, which he eventually found in a job opening at a pub.
