At the break of dawn, she slowly awoke to the sound of the birds chirping. A smiled washed across her face as she turned to gaze at Niels, peacefully asleep beside her. His arm cradled her waist, keeping her safe even while she slept. For the longest while, she studied his features, resisting the urge to reach out and touch the soft tuft of hair that dropped low on his forehead. Or to touch his lips, the ones that made her weak in the knees every time they touched hers.
He never ceased to amaze her. Each time he gazed in her eyes, he looked at her as though he was seeing her for the very first time. As though she was a treasure to be savoured. She rested her head on his chest and slid an arm across his torso, listening to the strong thud of his heart. The heart that beat for only her. With a smile still plastered on her face, she closed her eyes and drifted back to sleep. There was no need to wake up early; she might as well enjoy the trip to dreamland with the love of her life.
