16 was supposed to bring freedom and perfection. From there it was supposed to be smooth sailing. Who would've thought that every dream that she'd imagined would come crashing down. The friends that were supposed to remain close withdrew, more enemies were made, and a future that once seemed so certain now seemed shaky. Once again... living in the shadow of what's expected of them. Or rather, being held back because of the shadow they were forced to live in.
Things weren't supposed to happen this way. By now, she'd always imagined that she would be married and have a baby on the way or one already in her arms. She'd imagined that her and Niels would have tons of support from friends and family. That everyone close at heart would be there. Yet now, she wondered... Would they have any support? Or just negativity? For a moment, a dark thought shrouded her mind: perhaps it was a sign that life just wasn't worth living. However, one look at the love of her life, and she knew that life was worth living. Sure, there was still no ring on her finger, but if it were to happen in this moment... it would feel forced anyway. At this point... she just had to be patient and let things be. If there was one thing that she wanted to remain perfect, it was her engagement. If that meant waiting, then so be it.

Amanda rolled over in bed for the gazillionth time. She stared up at the ceiling for a while before slinging her arm over her eyes. For a moment, she considered getting out of bed and going for a walk, but she didn't want to wake Niels, and she was too sore from hunting anyway. With a sigh, she rolled onto her side.
London was tricky at this time of the year. Everyone flocked to London for DotD at this time, so not only had she been confronted with old friends and family members that she hadn't seen for a while, but also with people who weren't so easy to face. A hard lump formed in her throat whenever she thought of those who she couldn't face There were so many conflicting emotions. Should she face her fears or continue to ignore it? Should she stand up for herself and dispel rumours, or allow them to continue? Her heart ached at the though of the things she'd been accused of... of the reputation that she'd undeservingly acquired. Yet, what could she do about it? There were always more than one side to a story, and it was up to everyone else what they chose to believe. She simply had to accept that she drew the short straw. It's was early morning when she heard his voice gently whispering to her. Slowly, she awoke from her peaceful slumber, hearing him mention that they had a plane to catch. She opened her eyes and a smile curled around her lips. Oh how she loved to wake up to that face. As reality hit, it dawned on her just how excited she was. It was Valentine's Day and as far as she knew, there was a special surprise trip that Niels had in store for her. As they left the hotel, a teasing grin crawled across Niels' face. He had another plan... Blindfolded and then carried into the airplane, Amanda was beside herself with delight. This surprise couldn't be more exciting. She'd even had to cover her ears for all of the announcements, so she still had no clue where they were headed. In the airplane, she regained her sight, and together they watched their departure from Rio. The plane glided above the beautiful, glistening ocean of Rio before sailing through the clouds. Amanda smiled, curling up with her love beneath the blankets provided bythe stewardess They would catch up on some sleep en route to wherever they were going. ...and with a yawn, she dozed off. ...hours later... Awoken gently, she stretched again, listening to Niels as he mentioned they were almost there. Almost there! She was beside herself with excitement once again. There was a ping and the announcements began. A soft smile touched Niels' lips and he whispered, "Listen carefully." At last, she would know where they were headed. ...VILNIUS? Amanda smiled widely and hugged Niels tightly. They both knew what Vilnius meant to them. It was their beginning; where they'd first met each other. As they left the plane, there was a permanent smile on her face. She inhaled deeply, more than happy to be back where their story began. The first place they traveled to was the Cathedral. Standing there, at the altar, Amanda got lost in her dreams. The thought ran through her head again: did he still want to marry her? She didn't want to doubt it, but sometimes the thought just sneaked up on her. At least there was one thing she didn't doubt: he loved her. She'd just be patient, she decided. Today, she'd just enjoy being his Valentine... Comments #1. Glad you love it baby
Niels van Loon #2. Of course I do! *smiles widely* Amanda van Loon #3. Good *smiles back like that* Niels van Loon As far as she was concerned, In Rio, there was no better place to stay than in a suite near the beach. Even at night, the beach looked spectacular. There were so many great memories attached to Rio, including an amazing Valentine's day last year with Niels, spending time building sandcastes with the family, and of course swimming with old friends.
Holding Niels' hand as they checked into their hotel room for the night, the smile on her face was permanent. Soon they'll be able to see their parents and their siblings again. Even friends that they hadn't seen in a while. She was looking forward to the morning, then their day in Rio would officially begin. |
