It had been a fun-filled day. Emilia didn't seem to realise that it was a special day, but for once Niels and Amanda decided to spoil her. Naptime was ignored, as Emilia seemed to excited. Instead, she continued to toddle around the living room, holding on to her walker. Amanda sat quietly on the couch, admiring her little girl. It was unbelievable how quickly time had flown by. It seemed like just yesterday Amanda had felt the first pangs of labour. She could still clearly remember the unyielding joy that filled her heart when she heard her baby girl's first cry--her first sign of life outside of the womb. It almost brought Amanda to tears now, just thinking of how much Emilia had progressed since the day of her birth. She was such a content, affectionate child, and Amanda hoped it would never change. Niels had made sure to give Emilia her very first birthday cake. At first, Emi didn't know what to do with it, but as her curiosity always seemed to be connected to her tastebuds, soon after sticking her hands into the frosting, her hands ended up in her mouth. Niels and Amanda laughed, taking tons of pictures of their baby's first taste of cake. It certainly was something to be remembered. By the time they dressed Emilia in her birthday dress and hat, and traveled to the photographer's studio for her 1-year-old picture, the infant was exhausted. She refused to stand or to sit up and only managed to lie on her belly and stare blankly at the camera. Yet, it was a photograph that Amanda knew she would cherish for as long as she lived. They all laughed when Emilia eventually fell asleep during the photography session. She was exhausted after a fun-filled day of being spoiled. While Emilia slept soundly in her crib that night, Amanda sent up a silent prayer to Kobe--a thanks for a wonderful first year of her baby's life. Comments #1. Emilia squealed happily as her little feet touched the water. Amanda laughed softly, supporting Emilia while the infant stomped around in the gentle waves that washed ashore. Nearby, Rosa and Teun sat on a beach blanket, admiring their granddaughter while Niels snapped several photographs of Emilia and Amanda. Meanwhile, Eli and Belie were focused on constructing sandcastles while Zelda lay on the blanket beside Rosa, listening to music on her iPod. It was absolutely wonderful being with family again. It couldn’t be any more apparent to Amanda that Emilia was adored. Despite all that had occurred almost a year ago—despite Amanda’s concerns about not having a support system—she felt completely at ease. Emilia’s laugher brought Amanda back to the present. She smiled widely, keeping a firm grip on Emilia’s hands as Emilia toddled further into the waves. Amanda could hear Niels’ gentle reminder to be careful; to keep Emilia in the shallow water. It made her smile. He was such an amazing father, and he certainly did worry about their little girl. “How about you put that camera down and come join us, daddy?” Amanda suggested. Emilia turned and looked a Niels. “Dada!” she said in agreement. She held her arms out to him, summoning him into the shallow waves. Amanda grinned, knowing there was no way Niels could resist his baby girl. He nearly melted each time she called out to him. As Niels joined them, Amanda kissed his cheek and whispered, “Now the moment is perfect.” Comments
‘Twas the morning of Christmas when Amanda awoke to Emilia’s babbles on the baby monitor. The pleasant sounds were quickly becoming agitated as Emilia sat up and slapped her little hand against the bars of the crib. Amanda smiled at her little girl's utterance: ‘ma-ma.’ It was an early Christmas present, spurred by Niels’ efforts to bring forth the infant's first words. Amazingly, it’d worked, and now Emilia was calling for her mama.
Niels still lay, sound asleep beside her, the faintest hint of a smile on his visage. Amanda smiled and turned off the baby monitor before sneaking out of bed. She made her way to the nursery, entering with a cheerful, “Merry Christmas, Emilia!” Emilia squealed with delight, grabbing the bars of the crib to stand upright. “Maa…ma,” she said, a wide smile on her face. "Yes, mama!" Amanda lifted her, showering her face with playful butterfly kisses. “Come on, let’s go wake daddy,” she told Emilia. She winked and headed back to the master’s bedroom. A satisfied sigh left Amanda’s lips. It was time to start their own family holiday traditions, and she was certainly looking forward to it. It was going to be a merry Christmas, indeed.
