Amanda smiled, listening to the soft sounds of Emilia’s feet padding through the penthouse. It had been a long day at the beach and, without delay, they were already packing for Moscow and Paris. Emi’s content squeals filled the air as she ran around, being “chased” by daddy. It never ceased to amaze Amanda how quickly their little girl was growing up. Her vocabulary was growing just as quickly as she was physically growing. Every day, Emilia’s personality seemed to blossom more and more, like the prettiest of flowers, though she sometimes showed the more negative sides of her parents’ personalities. Fortunately, at this age, the little temper tantrums were still cute.
Emi ran towards Amanda, climbing onto her lap for refuge from daddy. She looked up at Amanda with those wide blue eyes that reminded Amanda so much of Niels. There was so much intelligence in those eyes. So much curiosity. As Niels plopped down on the couch beside Amanda, Emi scrambled to sit between her parents, claiming them equally. For a moment, Amanda was tempted to stay in New York, in this moment. She wanted to keep Emi at this sweet, inquisitive age. She wasn’t ready for her baby girl to grow up, but she knew life had to go on. She sighed and kissed Emi’s forehead before giving Niels a look. It was time for them to go. It was getting late and Emi was already turning into a bit of a night owl. “Ready?” Amanda inquired. Niels lifted Emi into his arms before standing up. “Ready,” he confirmed.
