Christmas had been wonderful. Everyone wasn’t in town but Amanda was happy to see Rico’s family for a little while and of course Daphne and Maë as well. Everyone in the van Loon household were in great spirits. Christmas carols and laughter filled the house. With Amanda’s belly growing, Elia was becoming more interested in the baby within. So Christmas was quite centred around Amanda’s growing mound. Christmas wishes were directed towards the baby, hugs were given to Amanda’s belly. In all honestly, it was a tad overwhelming to her.
This was really happening. A fourth child. Kobe… could they even handle a fourth child when they already had two who demanded so much attention. After Christmas, Amanda’s mind was abuzz. She kept trying to imagine holding the baby in her arms. But it was odd. She hadn’t expected to hold a new baby van Loon in her hands any time soon or ever again. She realised that they would not lack a guest bedroom, which was potentially bad because they often had guests. There was always the option of moving two of the kids into the same room but whom? Elia with Emi would be torturous for the older sister. Elia with Angelo wasn’t a good idea when Angelo was already 7. And putting the baby in with Elia… Well maybe that was their best option, but what if the baby constantly woke their light sleeper? They would need to turn the guest bedroom into a nursery. It was an inconvenience. One that shouldn’t be, and Amanda felt like a horrible mother for even thinking that way. Her hand subconsciously caressed her little belly. She could feel the strange, fluttery feeling as the baby moved around. She once found the sensation so magical, but honestly, not so much anymore. It just made things more real and scary. It was around this time last pregnancy she started having health problems wasn’t it? Closing her eyes, she sent up a silent prayer that this one would be different. That everything would work out just fine.
