Niels smiled, looking at the people sitting on the couch. Almost all of his family was there for Christmas, and he enjoyed it deeply. It had been a while since they'd had a Christmas like this, from before Emi ws born, but it felt good to have it again, at least this year.
Earlier that day they had received a call from his dad and mother-in-law, announcing they'd make a quick trip accross the Atlantic to celebrate Christmas with them. That had sparked a quick response in Amanda, who had made him a grocery list, quickly sending him out to the store. When Niels playfully remarked it could takesome time, she gave him a strict look, telling him to hurry up and get everything. Niels barely had time to change, with Amanda already rushing around, cleaning and taking care of Angelo, who decided to be extremely cranky. When Niels returned, he and Amanda quickly started cooking, together. They managed to get the courses prepared. After that, Amanda dashed off to clean more. This all caused Emi to enter the room, looking at him with a questioning face: "Why is mummy c'weaning?" Niels grinned at her, telling her she'd soon see, but that she had to be patient. Having heard that, Emi went off, playing with her rabbit while Amanda took care of Angelo. She had a tough time calming him down at first, but eventually she succeeded. A little later, Rico and Ceci arrived, taking care of Emi. After them came Niels' sisters, Isa and Zelda. An hour later, the others arrived. Niels and Amanda smiled as they greeted them, being happy they were here. Emi was excited, jumping up and down when she saw the presents they had brought for her. She jumped and hugged her grandparents, as well as her aunts and uncle, quickly dragging Aubrey with her to see her "bunny wabbit". The house was crowded, the atmosphere was right, they could really start celebrating this year's Christmas

Niels smiled, hearing little Angelo cry. It was a nice sound to wake up to. It had been a while now, since they had left the hospital and took the little boy home. But it still was amazing to have new life in the house.
Today however was a special day, a special day, for it was Halloween, Angelo's first one. He and Amanda had been looking for a costume for their little boy. And they had found a perfect costume for the little boy. As Niels gently woke Amanda, he could hear noises from Emi's room already. The little girl was probably excited, having overheard talks the evening before, discussing today. They had allowed her to choose her own outfit, and when she was ready, she would be stunning, Niels knew that for sure. But before that was happening, it might be better to get Angelo in an outfit first, even if just for some pictures. Niels got Amanda out of their bed, playfully pulling her to the dresser, asking her to take their little angel's costume. Amanda giggled, taking it out before handing it to him. Niels smiled widely, thanking her before beginning to walk towards Angelo's room. The little one woke as they entered, fussing a bit until Amanda started talking, immediately triggering a soft coo from Angelo. Niels laughed softly, walking up to him, lifting him and taking him to the changing table. Slowly he started moving Angelo's left arm, making him fuss. The fussing and crying when they were moving his arm was still painful, but the crying got less every day. That gave Niels and Amanda hope, hope of his injury healing. It took some time, they were aware of that, and it was healing slowly, but slowly was better than not. After the exercises were done, Niels changed his diaper, and put on his boy's costume. They put him back in his crib, taking a few pictures of him. He looked great, the next thing they had to do was getting Emi ready... When Niels heard Amanda calling out for him from the bathroom, he walked over there. Seeing her as he entered, he knew what was happening, and he began assuring Emi, quickly collecting Amanda’s “birth bag”. He dressed Emi, after which they were on their way to the birthing centre. Once they arrived, Amanda and Emi were quick to feel at home in the room that was assigned to them, having fun, being cuddled up on the bed to watch a movie, which Emi had chosen. Niels walked around while they did so, making sure both Amanda and Emi had everything they needed. He continuously asked Amanda how she was feeling, for he was slightly concerned about her wellbeing, heading into this birth. When Zelda messaged him she had arrived, Niels welcomed her into their room. Zelda took the sleepy Emi with her, who still managed to try and complain, so she could stay with her mummy and see her baby brother. But once she was in Zelda’s arms, holding her Duckie, she was back off to sleep. After Zelda and Emi had taken off, he focused fully on Amanda again. Amanda seemed very restless. She constantly tried doing something else, and Niels tried to calm her down, to make sure she rested. But no matter what he said she kept doing as she pleased.

Niels smiled softly at Amanda. He knew exactly what she was feeling, or so he guessed. He too felt a bit sad his little girl was growing up so fast, after all it just seemed like yesterday when she was born, and soon her little brother would be here. It was amazing how fast things had gone, transforming the sweet, little, helpless being into a girl that talked her head off, went to the potty all by herself and slept in a big girl bed. Niels had to sigh for a moment, for he realised his little girl was indeed growing up. Emi had been growing up a bit faster, getting used to the new things they were introducing to her faster, ever since they'd first announced the fact she was becoming a big sister. And Emi seemed convinced that being a big sister meant growing up, letting go of her crib and not be too hard on her parents. Niels had to smile, looking at one of the baby monitors standing next to Amanda. His little one was sleeping, soundly, hugging her stuffed animal tightly. Niels had to resist the urge to get up, to go to her room to check up on her, to see how she was sleeping. But that probably was a bad idea... ![]() He rubbed Amanda's belly softly, kissing her cheek. He was still amazed how life had treated him well, with this amazing wife and a sweet kid, with a second one on the way. But he sure hoped their little boy arriving would not be a sign for Emi to grow up faster, he wanted to hold on to his little girl, just a bit longer. With a soft sigh, he looked into Amanda's eyes, wiping a tear from the corner of it carefully. He whispered to her: "You're an amazing mummy baby, and don't worry, Emi will always be our little girl!" He kissed Amanda gently before handing her something small, something Emi wanted him to buy for her. He whispered again: "Look what Emi wanted to buy when we were shopping today..." |
