As Niels was sitting on the couch, with Emi and Amanda in the kitchen, he couldn’t help but smile. Today had been a quite stressful day to him, even though he had tried to hide it from Amanda. After all she couldn’t use someone being stressed around her.
Earlier that day, they had convinced Emi to go to the daycare around the block, telling her mummy and daddy needed to do something. The toddler had complained for a short while, but eventually she had given in, and so Niels and amanda took her there. This gave them some time alone, time they would use to the fullest. As they returned to their penthouse, Amanda quickly packed some gear and looked at Niels. “I’m ready,” she said, looking at him a little nervously. Niels smiled and took her hand in his, gently walking her out and leading her to the car, whispering into her ear before she got in: “Everything will be alright love, no worries…” He could tell by Amanda’s loving smile she believed his words, and that made him happy. They drove to the hospital and checked in, heading towards the waiting area which they had been in more than three years ago as well. It was an exciting moment, back then as well as now, but when the nurse finally called their name, they got up fairly quickly and went into the examination room. Some jelly was smeared on Amanda’s belly, a cold sensation obviously running through her body. Looks were exchanged before the ultrasound technician announced: “Congratulations Mister and Misses van Loon, you’re having a boy”. Niels smiled widely at Amanda, who was looking back at him with an even wider smile. Their family was having a new baby boy, a brother for their little Emi. As they remained there for a little longer, they looked at the tiny being inside of Amanda’s belly, listening to the little boy’s heartbeat. It was an amazing feeling, and it surely was another moment they would remember for a lifetime. Before they headed home, they received a sonogram picture, and Niels had put it on the table when they got home, before they went off to collect Emi. Now, they were all at home again, and Niels was pulled out of his memories by the sound of Emi babbling in the kitchen. It made him smile.

As he walked through the sands on the beach, Niels couldn't believe his eyes. Their little girl was three years of age now, already. Time had flown by, but Niels could remember every little detail of the little girl's life so far. How she had grown, from a little baby he could carry in both of his hands to a girl who walked after him, talking all of the time. As she was turning three, Niels and Amanda had talked over what they could do to surprise the little one, they had done so a while ago, and ever since they had been teasing her, making her curious about her birthday, about what they would do. And when the day finally arrived, Emi had been asking him all of the time where they were going, and when they were going. So Niels lead her and Amanda out, after making sure Amanda had done all that was necessary, and they had left after. They had taken a cab, and Emi had been looking around, curiously, wondering where they were going while taking in the surroundings. As the cab finally pulled over at Cape Cod, Amanda led them to their secret spot once again. Niels smiled widely as Emi laughed, running around happily, barefooted as always. He liked her spirits, as she sometimes looked at her mummy and daddy while chasing butterflies. She remebered not to dash off too far, and that made Niels proud. ![]() Some time later, after cuddling a bit on the blanket, Amanda had called out for Emi, telling her to come open her presents. Emi smiled widely, hearing the word presents, and she came dashing towards them. With a smile, Niels gave her a small package. He had picked it for her himself. He blew Emi a kiss, whispering: "Happy birthday, sweet little girl..." Niels smiled, looking at the little girl babbling to him. She was one of his two Valentines today, she had looked at him with gigantic puppy eyes as she had seen her mummy open her Valentine's Day card, and so Niels had decided to ask her to be his Valentine as well. That had made his little girl really happy, she had jumped into his arms and kissed him on the cheek, giggling. He was happy she enjoyed it so much, for that had been his goal.
Amanda stood there, smiling at them as Emi began to draw on Niels' arm, that morning, while babbling non-stop. She couldn't keep her mouth shut, but she was so cute, telling Niels how she loved him, and that she wanted to marry him. Niels laughed softly, nodding at his little daughter. It warmed his heart, seeing her talk like that. As they walked over the beach, Niels smiled at Amanda. She was beaming at him and Emi, and he blew her a kiss. He loved her, and he wanted to spend some time with her alone too. He bent over, writing their names in the sand, surrounded by a heart. When Amanda noticed, she smiled, giving him a loving look. A look he answered more than willingly. She still put him aflame, something deep within him. He couldn't believe this was their 14th Valentine's Day together already, but it kept on getting better and better. As he approached Amanda after walking through the water with Emi, he whispered lovingly: "Happy Valentine's day, Amanda van Loon, I'm blessed to have you!" |
