After Emi was done dancing, Niels smiled at Amanda as the crowd applauded for her. Their little girl had danced so well, and it filled Niels with a sense of pride. He was sure he and Amanda had made the right choice, first by letting her take classes and afterwards by letting her perform in this recital. A look at Amanda made clear to him she felt proud too, proud enough for her to wipe away a tear. Niels leaned in, whispering: “See, she was perfect, I think.”
Amanda smiled and nodded. She whispered afterwards: “You were right... She was fine!” She looked after their little girl as she went off stage. Once everyone was done dancing, Niels lifted Angelo and he walked to the backstage area with Amanda. As Emi saw them, she ran up to them excitedly, asking them how she did. After that, she beamed again, listening to the reactions of her parents. Niels winked at her: “Come on, your friends are out there, waiting to see you!” He winked at Amanda. “And maybe we can go out after, to a restaurant where we can have your favourite foods!” Emi beamed again, grabbing on to her mummy’s hand, asking her to help her get ready. Afterwards, she ran back to grab Niels’ hand as well to lead them out, saying bye to some of the other dancers. Niels could tell their little girl had been her own sociable self while she was waiting for her parents. It made him happy, for it was just so her to have made friends on just that little time already. When they reached the Rudd family, Emi smiled widely, hugging her friends. She started talking to them excitedly, telling them all about her day. Niels and Amanda couldn’t help smiling while they talked to their friends. Their little girl was so amazing, even while she was still daddy’s little Princess. After some time, Niels walked up to Emi. “Come on sweetie, say goodbye to your friends, time to go and eat something, you must be starving...”

Niels smiled, looking at the letter and the pictures he had received the day before. Amanda had certainly surprised him with her letter, and he felt like writing back something. His heart told him that no matter what he wrote, it would not be better or more sweet than Amanda's note, but he still had to try. And today provided him with an extra opportunity to write about. He took pen and paper and began to write: As Niels packed the letter in an envelope, his daughter Emi came running at him, overly excited and not wearing any shoes or socks, as usual. When Niels lifted Emilia and put the letter on the table for Amanda to find, he was reminded of the fact this was where he belonged, now and forever... |
