The holidays had been amazing, and there was still New Years Eve to come. For Halloween Emi got to dress up as Susan from Narnia with a bow and arrow and everything. Then on the day before Christmas Eve she got to celebrate her cousin Lucie’s second birthday. That meant yummy cake too and fun games. Then on Christmas Eve, she baked cookies with her family and even got to meet her brand new baby cousin Rhea. It was cool that Lucie had a baby sister now. She hoped she would like having a baby sister as much as she did.
Christmas brought more fun again. It was nice seeing a lot of her aunts and uncles and getting the chance to play with her cousins. She was so tired when she returned home on Christmas night that she went right to sleep. She dreamt of sparkly cookies and chocolatey hot cocoa. Then in the morning she woke up feeling hungry. The night before, she hadn’t even had the chance to check on Bunny, her rabbit. So the first thing she did when she woke in the morning was walk to the cage in the corner of the room. Usually, when she opened the cage, Bunny would wake excitedly and come to the door of the cage, but today, nothing happened. Emi frowned and reached in to touch the white rabbit. But the rabbit was cold. Emi frowned more. Rabbits weren’t supposed to be cold; they were supposed to feel warm and fluffy. She shook Bunny gently, but got nothing. Then she realised what happened. Tears sprung to her eyes. “Mummy!” she shrieked. “Daddy!!”
