Homework II Hi Ms. Joanne. Sorry I didn't do my homework last week. I'm catching up now! My favourite genre of music is classical. I guess it's because ballet is my favourite dance style and it's usually classical music used. I don't want to be a musician because I'd like to be a dancer instead. I didn't get to go to a concert or anything because my parents didn't have the time and I don't have a babysitter. We were actually in South Africa this weekend because we went to my Aunty Isabella's wedding. It was so awesome. But if I were to see a concert, I would like to go see a ballet instead. Like Swan Lake with music by Tchaikovsky. Homework III I'm in Paris right now, so I don't really have my real comfort place. I actually have two comfort places: my bedroom and the dance studio in our house in New York. But in our villa here in Paris, my mum has a dance studio too. It's waaaay bigger than the one back in New York. But I think I'd say that my comfort place here in Paris is my bedroom. I don't know why. Maybe because I can just come in here and do whatever I want without anyone bothering me. Comments #1. Hi Emilia! Thanks for making your homework, sweetheart! And hey, that room does really look pretty! I think bedrooms are really a comfort place though, especially in crowded homes, because it is a space for you only and you have your privacy there.
Joanne Seals #2. And yours does look really like a princess' room! Well done! Joanne Seals Hello Miss Joanne and class... My name is Emilia Paris van Loon and I’m 11 years old. My very most favourite thing in the whole world is dancing. Especially contemporary ballet and lyrical. I’ve been dancing since I can walk, I guess. My favourite colours are pink and yellow, and I live with my mummy, daddy and three younger siblings. Angelo is 7, Eliana is 4 and Niccolò was just born not that long ago. They’re all so cute. Ok, so for my letter… *pauses for a moment and then begins to read* Comments #1. Hi Emilia! Welcome to my class, sweetie!! And that is one lovely letter you wrote to your future self! It is indeed hard to decide if you say you, I or we... I would be confused too
Joanne Seals #2. I guess... But hey, do not worry about the friends part of all the letter. I am sure the older you grow up the more friends you will have. Even though... The number of friends never matters. It is sometimes better to have one good friend than 10... Joanne Seals #3. Hi Ms. Joanne. I do hope that I'll get more friends when I grow up. I don't even have one good one. Emilia van Loon Babies were so adorable, and so fun to cuddle. Emi couldn’t be more excited to go to the birthing centre and meet the newest member of the family. When she held her new baby brother in her arms for the first time, she couldn’t stop smiling. He was such a cutie and so tiny! He had an awesome name too. Niccolò. It was cool what her parents did there. Amanda - Angelo. Emilia - Eliana. Niels - Niccolò. Her parents were quite impressed that she’d seen the pattern.
Holding Nicco in her arms, she kissed his forehead. “We’ll all take goooood care of you,” she promised. “I think you’ll like being a member of this family.” It was strange, walking through the hallways of what could be her brand new school. She hadn't fully convinced her parents yet; after all, they were strong supporters of homeschooling. But Emi wanted to try it out. She wanted to be like normal kids and actually go to a public school. Meet new friends. Maybe it made her a nerd or whatever, but she was excited to catch up on homework assignments. Homework I Hello Mr. Ruth! My name is Emilia van Loon. I'm 10 years old and I'll be 11 in the Spring! I was born in New York and I live here too. I have a mother a father, a younger brother named Angelo, a little sister named Eliana and I have a baby brother or sister on the way. We're not sure if it's a boy or a girl yet but I can't wait until my parents find out! We all live in a penthouse with our daddy's pet wolf Ghost, who's really, really old now, and my two pet ferrets Yin and Yang. My family also has a home in Paris and I feel pretty at home there too. It's much, much different than New York though. Quieter where we live. I've been homeschooled since I was about 2 years old, so this is my very first time at a real school and I'm excited! When I'm not at school or studying, I love to dance. I mostly like ballet. I used to like just classical ballet but I like contemporary too. Jazz can be fun also! In the future, I'd love to be a professional dancer. I'm not sure if I want to be a prima ballerina but that could be cool. I don't know if there's anything that interesting about me. I'm very flexible... For a classmate, I choose... Emily Darcy! Homework II I took a picture of my mummy when we went for a walk. Her belly is still really little but she says that it's much bigger at this point that it was at that same point when she was pregnant with me. I chose this picture because I'm excited about my new sibling. Comments #1. Hey our names are almost the same. *grins* And Miss Amanda looks soooo cuuuute.
Emily Darcy #2. Yeah! Really close! *giggles* She does look cute huh? I like her little belly. *grins* Emilia van Loon #3. Hi Emilia, I'm so glad to see you as a new student in our class. You are very diligent, you did both the assignment... you are a good girl! I hope you will have a great time at school! Mickey Ruth #4. Thank you! I hope so too! Emilia van Loon Happy Halloween, everyone! I'm Belle again because, let's face it, she's amazing and here castle in Paris is beautiful!*smiles widely*
Emilia was excited sending a birthday gift to Lijah. It wasn't very large. In fact, it was tiny, bu she was terrible at giving gifts. She thought the keychain was pretty cool though. Not as awesome as the real Eiffel tower but pretty cool. The gift would be late too... She felt like a terrible friend as she handed the small package over to the post office lady.
Soon though, she thanked the lady and left the post office with her daddy. "Do you think he'll like it?" she asked her daddy. "You really have to teach me to choose better presents. Mummy is always really happy with whatever you get her." “Why is my middle name Paris?”
Emi watched as her mum and dad immediately turned their attention from the Eiffel Tower and exchanged really weird looks with each other. They didn’t say a word for a while, which made Emi even more curious. She was distracted for a moment, however, by Elia’s excited squeals as she ran around with Maë and Angelo. Now it was just Aunty Daphne looking after them while Emi’s mum and dad just… stared at each other? “Mummy? Daddy?” She waited. “Uhm…” Her dad looked at her, obviously not sure what to say. “Well… when your mum and I got married, we came here for our honeymoon. The house we have here was my wedding gift to her. A total surprise, and we sort of made a new life here… Until we found out that mummy was pregnant with you.” “Oh…” Emi frowned in deep thought. “So you named me Paris because… you like it here? Or because you found out that you were pregnant with me while you were here?” She moved her eyes to her mum now. “Yes,” her mum said a little too quickly. “That’s why.” She smiled, but there was a kind of nervousness behind the smile. It made Emi suspicious. “Well…” Her mummy glanced at her daddy. “Because Paris was the start of our married lives together, even though we were married in New York. And Because you were the start of our family.” Now there was a genuine smile. “Oh why didn’t you just say so?” Emi giggled. “So I made Paris even more special huh?” “Exactly,” her parents said together. Emi beamed. Now she liked the city even more. Emi didn’t quite understand love. Well not the love between a boy and a girl or a man and a woman at least. Sure she knew what it was like to love Angelo, but he was her brother. And of course she loved her daddy. While in Vilnius she’d gotten to hear so many stories about her parents when they were younger. It seemed that they knew what love was like already at her age. She couldn’t imagine it though. It was just too weird. Boys were weird, even. Not that she got to spend a lot of time with boys, aside from Angelo. Jarrett and Lijah were in London, so she rarely got to see them. And León was in Madrid. Jarrett was pretty weird and Lijah was a sweetheart, but still different from a girl. She looked at a picture of her parents on their wedding day and wondered what it was like to kiss a boy. Did it feel funny? Was it gross? She assumed it was gross. After all… kissing a boy on the lips? Yuck. Yet her mummy and daddy did it all the time. Maybe it was because they were married? Maybe being married made things feel different. Emi giggled at some really young pictures she’d found. It was hard to believe that her mum and dad were once her age but, here was the proof. Maybe one day, she'd get it. But for now, love was a mystery.
